  I love good old Fish and Chips. That what us old Sea Dogs come for. Great food and service.

• Time machine!

  Seriously, it's like going back in time to 1954! The Deep Sea is very much a Dundee institution. It's a take away chippy but perhaps more significantly it's one of those places where you can have a sit in fish and chip tea with buttered triangles of while bread and a pot of tea brought to you your formica tables by proper waitresses. We tend to go there on Xmas eve before going to see the panto...sorry 'Christmas Play' at the rep theatre just for the contrast with the usual Xmas overkill. There's a nice atmosphere in the place, the Xmas decorations are probably the same ones the've been using for the last 40 years and there is a very friendly, family run feel to the place. The last time we were in we were confronted with the rather bizzare sight of two Russian sailors getting politely hammered on quadruple vodkas!Just don't have the boiled ham salad!!

• Deep Sea

  This place has a loyal following with the older generations and it's not really hard to see why. The food is a little more expensive than the average chip shop but it is really very nice. The Deep Sea seems to be at it's busiest before shows start at the Rep. You don't have to eat in the restaurant as they do takeaways too.The restaurant itself is chilly, drafty and in need of an overhaul. It feels quite old-fashioned and the last time I was there they had those horrible cheap plastic tablecloths. The waitresses are very pleasant but they're a bit slow. Give this place a try but allow lots of time!
